Port Shepstone E-mail

Port Shepstone is situated on the tropical KwaZulu-Natal Coast in South Africa. It is the largest town in the state. The town is still fairly young as it was founded in 1867 after the discovery of marble nearby. The town is named after Sir Theophilus Shepstone. The town is a very popular tourist destination for people that want to experience the beautiful KwaZulu Natal Coast.

The town was once a bustling harbour but is now just known as transport centre to the south and is an administrative commercial zone. However on the outskirts of the town life goes at a more relaxed pace and is where the tourists can be found. There is much evidence of the Norwegian settlers there!

For those planning on visiting this beautiful town in one of South Africa’s most beautiful destinations you must be sure to visit the church on the outskirts of the town. Also be sure to visit the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve. It is a perfect place to take the kids or just somewhere to chill out. It is situated 21 km from Port Shepstone in one of the most spectacular gorges in Southern Africa and is about 24 km long and 400 m deep. The things that you can do there are nature walks and freshwater fishing.

There are many places to stay in the area which include hotels, self-catering accommodation; the Kapenta Bay Resort is not far away which also hosts a full range of accommodation!
