Most of you will be aware of Nelson Mandela and his fight for the end of apartheid. You will all also be aware that he spent 27 years. Well Robben Island was his home for those many years and attracts many tourists today for that reason. However the island to South Africans was renowned before that as the island of lepers, the mentally insane and political prisoners.

Those of us prisoners… I mean tourists, should definitely add it to our lists of things to see. The prison has obviously since closed and has been declared a World Heritage Site.
