The Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve situated just thirty minutes Northwest of Johannesburg, is set in the beautiful Kromdraai Conservancy, in the heart of a World Heritage Site (Cradle of Humankind).
This haven will help you escape the hustle and bustle of the city. The reserve boasts game species like White Rhino, Hippo, Lions, Siberian and Bengal Tigers, Cheetah, Wild Dogs, Buffalo and more than twenty other species of game. All told, over 650 head of game roam an area of approximately 1400 ha, this will satisfy even the most avid game viewer. You can also experience the excitement of driving around the Predator camp, spanning an area of approximately 100ha, where you can witness our magnificent prides of white and tawny Lions, Wild Dogs and Cheetah living in their natural environment. A special Birding hide was erected for the conservation and viewing of the Cape Vulture, other visitors include the White-Backed and Lappet-Faced Vultures, which are fed on a regular basis. A must is also to visit our animal crèche to see our tiger and lion cubs as well as the reptile centre which boasts numerous indigenous snakes as well as some exotic types for those who have little or no fear.
DAY VISITORS
At leisure, day visitors can explore the reserve in their own vehicles, along gravel roads, which could take approx. 2-3 hours, hereafter one can relax in the picnic area. An animal crèche housing various animal cubs, swimming pool, kiosk, restaurant (Croc pub and Boma restaurant Tel: 957-0061) (wood for sale and grids for hire), and 45 braai areas are provided. In the comfort of a pub one can enjoy liquid refreshments and light meals, with the added adventure of being surrounded by a crocodile pool now home to Humphrey our pigmy hippo. Gifts can be purchased from a well-stocked curio shop. Various venues are available for private and corporate functions to hire for the day. More information can be contacted from the booking office. A free Reptile display takes place each Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays at 11h00 and 15h00. Lion and tiger cubs can be viewed/touched for R20 per person at the animal crèche (when available).
FEEDING TIME & ACTIVITIES
Saturdays, Sundays, Wednesdays and Public Holidays between 13h00 and 14h00 the Lion Cheetah and Wild dog are fed.
