The Karoo National Park is the biggest Ecosystem in South Africa and is situated about 7km from Beaufort West. The Karoo’s landscape is dominated by the Nuweveld mountains and rolling plains. It also has very harsh conditions so the animals there have adapted themselves to the area!
Due to it having the biggest Ecosystem in South Africa you will not fall short of seeing true African wildlife. In actual fact many of the species there that disappeared have since returned to their former “homes” there. The park has a wide variety of endemic wildlife. Many species have been relocated to their former ranges - such as black rhino and buffalo, as well as Cape mountain zebra. Over 20 breeding pairs of black eagle find sanctuary within the park. However the park is home to a wide variety of plants and small reptiles!
Activities: There is a lot to do there such as hiking trails and mountain biking for those of us who are into a more active holiday! There is a scenic drive along the picturesque Klipspringer Pass, game viewing in your own vehicle. Karoo 4X4 Trail and night drives that will need a camera and there is a swimming pool for the resident guests. Bird watchers I know that you are feeling left out, but don’t get disheartened as there is a bird’s hide at the dam near the main rest camp.
Accommodation: The accommodation there consists of chalets, rest camps, cottages and self catering accommodation
