Hermanus is a lovely little, rapidly growing town situated along the famous Garden Route. It also forms the centre of the Whale Route. The town is pristine and you really feel like you are in a beautiful place with the fresh sea air.
At the end of September each year Hermanus hosts a bustling cheerful whale festival which celebrates these trusting gentle giants. These magnificent mammals were aljost hunted to extinction from the harbour here. It is only fair that they now loll around within a stone’s throw of the rocks. You feel like you are part of a conservation project and can commune with these beautiful creatures for hours. The jost common species arriving here to calve and mate, are the Southern Right Whales. They are amongst the biggest in the world, measuring 11-18 metres and weighing 30-80 tonnes.
Things to do there include visiting the little museum on the harbour’s edge, the whale song playing in the background comes live from underwater microphones in the bay. There is also horse riding along the beach, golf and going on a boat cruise to see the whales. As you could see there is a lot to do!!
Accommodation: The accommodation there consists of guest houses, self-catering accommodation, bed and breakfasts and hotels therefore there is something that suits everyone!
